This talk will present recent advances in understanding epileptic activity propagation using multimodal neuroimaging. It will cover how EEG, MEG, MRI, and source imaging can be integrated to reconstruct the spatiotemporal dynamics of epileptic discharges and estimate effective brain connectivity. The presentation will discuss the clinical value of these approaches in identifying epileptogenic networks, improving presurgical evaluation, and providing quantitative biomarkers to support diagnosis, prognosis, and personalized treatment in drug-resistant epilepsy.

Dr. Margherita A.G. Matarrese

Assistant Professor in Biomedical Signal Processing
Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome

Dr. Margherita A.G. Matarrese is an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Signal Processing at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. Her research focuses on neuroengineering, multimodal neuroimaging, brain connectivity, biomedical signal processing, and computational neuroscience. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, developing advanced methods for pediatric epilepsy using EEG, MEG, MRI, and source imaging. She has collaborated with Boston Children's Hospital, Cook Children's Health Care System, the University of Texas at Arlington, and Aston University. Her work also spans artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, and network neuroscience.
