Welcome to ANT Neuro Educational Webinar Series!

In this webinar, we are happy to provide you with an overview of optimization approaches for therapeutic rTMS in Psychiatry.

Although repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been shown to be an effective treatment option for major depressive disorder (MDD), up to 50% of patients do not appear to benefit from it. In this talk, I will share our experience in developing a personalized navigated stimulation protocol based on each participant’s resting state networks. From the basic phase, we have been able to show that by selecting optimal sites for rTMS in healthy volunteers, the anterior cingulate cortex as well as the ventral striatum and insula can be strongly modulated. Now a translational phase with MDD patients is underway. Within this framework, if the effects observed in healthy participants extend to patients, individually determining the location of the stimulation may improve the efficacy of rTMS in MDD and reshape its therapeutic application in the future.

The presenter is Dr. Roberto Goya Maldonado who is a Research Group Leader and head of the Laboratory of Systems Neuroscience and Imaging in Psychiatry (SNIPLab) at the University Medical Center Göttingen. He received his MD in Psychiatry from the University of Heidelberg and Postdoctoral training in Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich as well as University Medical Center, Göttingen.

This session will be followed by a live demonstration of the navigated TMS system by ANT Neuro application specialists / product management team.
