Welcome to ANT Neuro Educational Webinar Series!

The drive for more realism in psychological experimentation has recently gained traction through the widespread availability of affordable virtual reality (VR) equipment and software. While cognitive psychology as well as clinical applications and rehabilitation are benefitting, the use of VR in cognitive neuroscience is somewhat lagging behind. Here I will present past and ongoing work in my group, describing various studies using VR with concurrent EEG recordings that range from social interactions with virtual humans, over confrontational scenarios and decision making with authorized firearms officers, to simulated navigation and driving. We will discuss advantages and disadvantages of these combined methods and ways to analyse EEG data.

The presenter if Prof. Klaus Kessler who is a full professor of Psychology and the head of the Mental Neuro-Chronometry lab in Psychology at UCD. After finishing his undergraduate studies and PhD in Germany at Mannheim University, Klaus was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wales, Bangor and at Duesseldorf University. Before joining UCD, he was lecturer/senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow and subsequently Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at Aston University. Klaus joined the School of Psychology at UCD as Full Professor of Affective, Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience in February 2022. Klaus was co-Director of Aston’s brain imaging facilities and co-Director of the Aston Laboratory for Immersive Virtual Environments (ALIVE).

Looking forward to welcoming you to this webinar.
