Welcome to ANT Neuro Educational Webinar Series!

Functional brain imaging with MEG and EEG provides high temporal resolution, in the milliseconds time range. This high temporal resolution is used to investigate abnormal brain activity in patients with epilepsy. These techniques are complementary when used simultaneously. MEG is best suited to detect tangential components while EEG is best suited to detect radial components of the underlying neuronal currents. Ictal (epileptic Seizures) and interictal (epileptic Spikes) activity are easily detected and source localized to provide valuable information to the Neurologist and Neurosurgeons who are planning treatment. This talk will cover the complementary aspects of these imaging techniques. It will be followed by a virtual product demonstration and a Q&A session.

Our presenter is Dr. Susan Bowyer, who is a biomedical physicist/neuroimaging scientist in the Department of Neurology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan USA and the Scientific Director of the Neuromagnetism Lab. She uses neuroimaging techniques such as MEG, EEG and FMRI to understand how the brain processes language, hearing, vision, sensory, and memory functions. She also develops neuroimaging methods to determine the location of abnormal brain areas (such as in epilepsy) prior to surgery. Previously, she has investigated the cortical networks in disorders such as Autism, Dyslexia, Migraine, Tinnitus, and Dystonia. Dr. Bowyer received an associate degree in business management, a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in biomedical physics. Currently she is an adjunct associate professor at Oakland University where she teaches physics, as well as an associate professor at Wayne State University in the School of Medicine.

We're looking forward to welcoming you to this webinar!
